Helping Dartford and Dover Residents Access Grant Funding

A Growing Population
Did you know that Dartford had one of the highest growth rates in Kent with a population increase of 20% between the 2011 and 2021 censuses?
Combined with a 26% increase in residents aged 65 to 74, this highlights a significant trend: not only is the population growing rapidly, but it is also ageing. This presents a challenge for Local Authorities, as older residents are typically more vulnerable to the health impacts of cold, damp and poorly insulated homes.
In response to these challenges, Dartford Borough Council and Dover District Council were jointly awarded £1,868,398 in March 2025 through the Warm Homes: Local Grant (WHLG) scheme.
This government-backed funding supports vital energy-efficiency upgrades that improve living conditions and reduce energy costs for households most in need.
Tackling Fuel Poverty Together
Aran is working alongside both councils to deliver essential energy upgrades between now and 2028. The Warm Homes Local Grant funding scheme targets households that:
• Have a gross annual household income of £36,000 or less
• Receive means-tested benefits (e.g., Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, Pension Credit)
• Have homes with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D to G
• Are privately owned (owner-occupied, landlord owned, or privately rented)
These improvements make homes in Kent healthier and more energy efficient, directly helping those at risk from the effects of living in cold and draughty homes with poor thermal efficiency. They also contribute to lower carbon emissions and support Kent’s journey towards net zero.
