Take control of your energy consumption now

The recent warmer weather has been enjoyed by many of us across the UK, whilst many of us may have struggled with the rise in temperature at night, resulting with an uncomfortable restless night in a warm bedroom.

Which leads us to this common question. Is home insulation still important in the summer months?

You will notice that when checking a well insulated loft in the winter the roof space is really cold. This is simply because your homes heat is being blocked from reaching the loft and roof by a thick layer of insulation.

If you were to pop your head back into your loft during the summer, you will notice the loft space is very warm. This is because the suns heat has entered your roof space, but the layer of insulation has reduced any movement of heat escaping the loft and entering the living space below.

Poorly insulated homes such as an uninsulated roof, room in roof or attic room will always feel really cold in the winter and very hot in the summer. Insulating this space will aid a much more comfortable living environment during both winter and summer. We recommend checking your loft insulation depth by measuring the existing loft insulation, it should measure at least 250 - 270mm thick. If there is already insulation in place measuring under 250mm it will benefit from a top up.

Cavity wall insulation and solid wall insulation works in exactly the same way except working with the exterior walls of your property.
